Hypocrisy

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/5174960.stm

I don’t really follow Politics, as it doesn’t really effect our daily lives, and all politicians are lying scum bag perverts in it for their own self importance.

However, this made me choke.

President Bush is having ago at President Putin over basic civil rites???

Pot calling Kettle Black?

Surely he has the decency to be smirking with his fingers crossed behind his back.

Let’s see:

Guantanamo Bay: 500 people held without trial for 4 on years.
Government Sanction Torture: Did you know that US actually fly suspects to Saudi to be tortured?
Invasion: Everyone by now knows that the US only invaded Iraq to get it’s oil. Surely that is common knowledge.
Death Penalty: This should only be used on Pedophiles.
Incarceration: The US rate of incarceration is around 690 inmates per 100,000 residents-a rate Human Rights Watch believed to be the highest in the world (with the exception of Rwanda)

They are only the one’s I can think of, off the top of my head, and as stated I don’t follow politics.

Here is what Amnesty International has to say on the USA.

I suggest everyone watch the first hour of Fahrenheit 9/11.

Beasted

How many people have been “beasted” in the Army?

Everyone that’s ever joined.

We are talking millions and millions of beastings, and how many people have died from it?

One (Carol: in all your years with an associated with the Army, did you ever hear of anyone else dieing from a beasting?)

And some of you are saying that you shouldn’t join the Army???

Doesn’t really add does it? Not logically speaking.

The Army is a tough place and rightly so, it needs tough people as War is not for softies. They train hard to give them the best chance of survival in Active Combat situations. It is this toughness and professionalism that have made us the most respect fighting force in the World.

It is that reason that all you left wing softies are not either eating Bratwurst or some Argie equivalent for breakfast.

I would worry less about your kids joining the Army and in my opinion, becoming rounded confident individuals, with a sense of maturity and respect for their elders with only the remotest chance of dying during a beasting.

And more on what them smoking, taking drugs and being knifed on a night out or ending up drunk is some gutter. Which is the more likely scenario.

Just my opinion.

I actually enjoyed beastings, as I love physical exercise.

In the Army now

Just to give some support to Paul...

My son is 16 - he's lazy, moody and less than motivated.

I would LOVE him to join the army. He's perfect. He's very capable, strong and social. And can take orders.

He used to Cycle at a very high level. When he did, he trained frequently, was in excellent physical shape and really enjoyed life. Travelling the UK doing races and mixing with other like minded youths.

He gave up coz he couldn't be bothered training anymore (and I was sick of fighting about it). Now he regrets it.

So, what's he got to look forward to:

Travelling the world with a bunch of mates doing bizarre things like abseiling and leaping into rivers while learning a trade and getting super fit

-or-

miserably hanging round the local youth club, drinking cider and hoping that one of those 'advanced' girls will let him take off her bra (oops, that's my life I'm talking about)

Youth is wasted on the young.

My Pet Hate

People who don’t have their contact telephone number as a signature on their work email.

If I need to phone them up, it’s the easiest place to look it up.

Come on play the game.

Offended Me?

By the way, I never get offended by comments, and those of you don’t rate the Army, then fair enough. However, if you could have seen the difference in the skinny, chronically shy Island teenager that joined the Army aged 17 and the toned, muscled, confident well travelled killing machine Adonis that left six years later, then I think you would change your minds.

I realise that the Army isn’t for today’s teenagers as you need to be able to do as you’re told, and get out and do exercise.

But I would love all my boys to do 3 years, (which was the minimum when I joined). It would give them so much. And teach them a lot about themselves and discipline.

Mind you I left the Army 16 years ago, so god knows how much it has changed since.

Anyhoo, you never know, by the time Nemo is old enough, there might be Space Marines….

Blowing my own trumpet

I wasn’t going to post this, as I thought it was a bit narcissistic, however, isn’t that the whole point of a blog to write about your self.

So here goes.

I’ve changed my routine at the Gym this week, I used to do 20 mins on the cross trainer and then finish off doing either 500 or 1000 metres on the Rower depending how tired I was.

But to I decided I’d focus on the Rower, as this gives a more complete workout than the cross trainer, doing up and lower body as well as cardio.

Anyhoo….

So I sat down for my forth session of the week and went for it….

Although I was knackered, I was thinking of my Beasting blog, and that this was the perfect time to put that mental toughness to real life practise. So no matter how tired I got, I just pushed that bit harder.

Well I finished on 7 mins 48.4 secs.

Which according to Concept 2 online site is ranked 39th in the WORLD in the 30 to 39, lightweight cat (under 75kg’s) for 2000 metres category.

And if you only take the 39 year old’s I am ranked THIRD….

I am a rowing GOD.

Being realistic this only accounts for people that have been narcissistic enough to put their times on the official Concept 2 website, but then again which true sports man wouldn’t?

Beasting in the Army

Someone asked me what a Beasting in the Army entails, and so I thought it was a good excuse, or at least an excuse to write a blog post.
Remembering, as you will that this is from my personal experience in the Army Air Corp over six years.
A Beasting is basically a physical exercise punishment, and not bullying or a beating as some people have stated. It is purely exercise to the extreme.
Obviously, in the Army there is a lot of physical exercise involved, especially during training, however, if a Beasting is deemed necessary, you wish you had never been born.
The one (of many in extreme cold (I remember having to do a Beasting in the snow in shorts and it was minus 20) and extreme heat) is when I was doing my Junior Cadre Course.
I’ll pause here, whilst you pull up a sand bag.
Anyhoo we had been on a three day exercise that involved sleep deprivation to see if you could handle the stress and fatigue you get from doing everything with no sleep for three days.
As you can imagine, when we finally finished and got back to camp, there were a lot of very very very tired bunnies. However, the first thing you do in the Army is look after you kit, and then look after yourselves. So we had to wash all the vehicles (that the instructors rode around in as we had to march everywhere) and then clean your weapons and hand them in at the Armoury.
When some of the lads sat down on the end of their beds to clean their weapons, they immediately fell asleep, and unfortunately one of the NCO’s walked in and saw them asleep. Well they went ballistic!
So they lined us all up (as we were to be punished as a squad) and ran us down to the Gym in full kit. We then loaded up on medicine balls and set off on a ten mile run…….
You can imagine or probably not, never having been through that, that it was more than tiring or exhausting, it was … well words escape me. People were dropping like flies, but we had to pick them up and force them to carry on running.
Then once back in the camp we were told that if they caught one single person asleep before all the weapons were cleaned, inspected and put away, that we’d be out again for a 20 mile run.
Although we were obviously a hell of a lot more tired than before, NO ONE FELL ASLEEP.
So there you are a chance for me to regal you with an old Army tale, and to impart to you the knowledge that a Beasting in the Army, to my knowledge and experience is just an extreme exercise routine.

Do Spell Checkers Make you a Worse Speller?

I have always been useless at spelling. I can always pass spelling tests as I am good at learning things, but once the test is over, by brain thinks that I no longer need to remember how to spell that word, and removes it to the Recycler.

So in the old days whilst I was in the Army and writing letters home, you would find half a dozen mistakes on each page.

As an aside: Does any remember the free Army letters you used to get, they were blue and about A4 size, once you had finished writing you licked the sides and it folded it an envelope, they were dead cool.

Anyhoo I digress.

So now I work with computers all day, and everything except MSN messenger has a spell checker on it. I tend to just try and get as close as possible to the spelling and then let Word sort it out.

Occasionally I will try and correct the word it is telling me is spelt incorrectly, but mostly I give up.

I’m a bad speller and it’s as simple as that. I have other gifts that make me special to make up for it.

Ok this is what has happened

Yesterday was a public holiday in the Isle of Man as it was Tynwald Day, and for once it was a glorious sunny day. In fact you could say too hot for the average Manxie.

Unfortunately one of the kids was really sick (temperature of 104) and so we couldn’t venture far from the house.

Daniel and I donned our trunks and headed for the beach for a couple of hours in the morning, digging holes, making Sand Castles, paddling, catching Crabs, looking at fish, poking Jelly Fish all the usual stuff.

We got home just in time for a picnic lunch.

Then the afternoon as spent lazing around the house and garden playing with trains and cars, and when ever I got a spare 30 mins, playing on Oblivion.

The only down side yesterday was our Sky+ has finally died. It has been spluttering along for the last 6 months or so, continually failing to record, or losing everything that was recorded. So after our third system reset by Sky they admitted it was “likely” that it wont work again.

So last night we had to watch TV without Sky+. How the fuck do people do it?
If you sit down at 20 past the hour, you’ve either missed most of the program or have to sit around twiddling your thumbs until a new one starts. We spent 10 mins going through all 999 channels looking for something we’d watch and found nothing. We settled on something that might be OK, but then we had to sit through the Adverts. I haven’t watched an advert in years. PLUS, if you need to go to the toilet you have to wait for the adverts, no pausing and saying I’m just going for a quick piss. PLUS, if you need to get another drink from the kitchen, you have to wait for the adverts. So you are sat there gasping till they decide when it’s time for a refill. PLUS, an hour long programme lasts an hour? What’s that all about? With Sky +, since you don’t watch the adverts they only last 40 mins. I swear it was hell, sheer hell. How on earth people live without Sky+ I don’t know, the poor poor bastards.

There was also an alarming twist to the Sky+ failing, which gave me kittens….

During the failed System Reset Procedure that Sky had me do, was turn off the system at the mains. I just flicked the switch at the wall, and this switched of Sky, the TV and my Xbox 360, which I thought nothing about. Later that day I sat down with my wife and poorly child, who was thankfully feeling much better, to have a quick blast on Oblivion. So, I’m sat there chatting to them both whilst it all fires up and then it only gave the option to start a new game? Where were my previous saves? There was nothing, I literally went white. 60 hours of intense gaming GONE! Hours and hours of quests and levelling up, GONE!

I almost literally cried….. I shit you not.

Then it dawned on me that it had mentioned I had signed in to live as Daniel, which was the second Profile on the machine, so I restarted and logged in as me and all the saved games were there. I could have cried again with relief…. Seriously I was that relieved. No I am not a geeky nerdy loser…..

Finally I was reading about this in the paper today, Squaddie Beasting. I am of course not happy he died, BUT seriously, any one who skirts an Officer with a fire extinguisher is going to get a SEVERE beasting. I can’t believe he actually thought they would take it as a joke….. It’s his own fault but a terrible accident. Apparently he asked them to stop. He’s in the fucking Army, they tell you when to stop… As an ex squaddie I sympathise with the Army and not the dead soldier. It was just an accident and not man slaughter. Obviously, that’s just my opinion.

That is all….

A very Pleasant Evening

I finished work bang on time, got a lift home, tea on the table (Pie, Mash, Peas, Broccoli and Asparagus), quick change and then down the beach with baby son.

2 hours of fun and laughter, home, bath, milk, cuddle and bed.

Then relax with the wife.

Then a couple of hours playing video games.

The question is; does life get any better?

I don’t think so.

Weekend Round up.

Friday I cooked a Romantic meal for the Lady in my life, which got off to a Mr Bean start. I opened a bottle of Champagne (actually it was Cava, but don't ruin the illusion), and it just slipped out of my hands. It hit the floor and then went flying across the kitchen and dining room floors via jet propulsion. Doh!

The rest of the Meal was fine, and I drank a bit too much.

Saturday, kids party in Peel, and then my Wife was out, and middle son and I made Pizza and watched Zuphora (or how ever you spell it) and then I watched the Wigan game (which they won) and managed an hour on Oblivion before she got home.

Sunday was a lazy day, interspersed by the School fair.

All in all nothing special.

Sciatic Nerve My Ass

As previously posted one of us isn't well, that'll be me then. What started of as an occasional dull ache whilst on the cross-trainer over a year ago has just grown and grown until I now struggle walking more than a few hundred yards, even when sober. Reluctantly I've dragged my sorry spastic leg of to the doctor for a look, a few prods and whacks with a hammer later and I've apparently got something wrong with my sciatic nerve, whatever the hell that is. Google reports that it's something pregnant chicks have problems with so as I'm neither I'll expect nothing less than a full on piss take. On the plus side I've got some kick ass tablets to take that numb the pain, shrink the swelling and allow me to run around like a spring chicken. Looking for a side affect that might buy me some time of work sick I noted that they "may" (will) make you "emotional" or "irrational".

The dilemma is to take the tablets and move freely whilst feeling sorry for yourself and cursing life like a great big homo girly thing OR bin the tablets, grit your teeth and get on with kicking the crap out of life, all be it with a feeble monged leg. Me, I'll take the tablets, this really bloody hurts.

What have I done?

Well two things at work.

I downloaded and install Microsoft’s new Windows Media Player 11.

I found out about and joined http://digg.com/

That’s it

We are Alive

I thought I would post something just to let you all know that everyone involved with this blog is alive and mostly well.

In fact 3 of us went for a few quiet beers last night, whilst the forth was at home, poorly (bless him).

So yes we are alive, alas nothing worth blogging about has happened, or people are too busy, or they just can’t be arsed.

Anyway, this blogging lark, wont last and is just another Computer Fad that wont last, just like the Internet in general.

That’s it really.

Go away!

Slow down.

It’s not that I want to get drunk, it’s just that if I have any drink in my hand be it Beer, Wine, Orange or Tea, I tend to drink it very quickly.

However, when the said drink has alcohol in it, that’s when there’s trouble.

I get very drunk, very quickly and become my alter person, the caustic drunk.

I hate him, he’s a coooooooont.

I shall be different from now on. Controlled pace, pausing to relay amusing anecdotes to the listening crowd. I shall be the very wit of the party, with a splash of sobriety.

After all, I am middle aged in the next 6 months.

Anti Rape Condom – I shit you not

http://www.rapestop.net/

This is a real product, apparently if you feel you might end up a victim to rape (long journey or a blind date etc) you insert this anti rape condom.

Then if a rape takes place, the second he enters you his “member” gets stuck, in this painful condom.

He then has to seek medical help to get it off before his dick falls off.

Honestly….

Some of the FAQ’s state.

Won't the rapist kill me?
Sadly, many women have been killed over time, as nobody can guarantee the outcome of any rape! However, the huge plus-factor is that the discomfort and pain is such, that the rapist would be disabled temporarily, (much worse than a kick in the groin that self-defence instructors teach women!) giving you time to get away and get help.

Also

Will it be available in various sizes?
Yes. Small, medium and large.

Now is the sizing for the girl or boy?

Anyway,

It may be a good idea, who knows…

Obviously, I don’t want to make light of rape and think the thing should have razor blades all along the inside.

Remember the chances of this happening to you are very slight, so don’t have nightmares.

Dentists

I’ve just been to the Dentist for three fillings.

What’s the first question he asks, “Do you want a pain killing injection?”

What the Fuck.

Either it’s going to hurt and I need one, or it isn’t? You’re the one doing the work, how the hell am I meant to know if it’s going to hurt?

Actually my dentist is fantastic; he explains everything and is a very nice man.

I took the No Injection option, and I felt very little pain.

Top bloke.

A real Post

Well what to say?

Nowt much is happening at the moment, I’m playing a fair bit of Oblivion on the old Xbox 360. Which is a life and time sucking RPG that is simply fan-fucking-tastic, well if you are a 30 something (for another 7 months anyway) bloke.

Paulie B got Sky HD this week, so I am really looking forward to going round to his on Sunday to see it working. Even if it means I have to watch a football match.

Tonight, we are off to Aidy’s for beers and snacks. Which will be nice to get out of our house and around somebody else’s for a change.

Tomorrow I have an appointment with my stylist to work on a new hairstyle. Which is a week too late; as it is really doing my head in, (I hate that expression, and never use it verbally).

Middle son, is doing a concert all weekend.

I think that’s it. As I said, nothing really happening at all.

I’m sure there is more, but right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time - I think I've forgotten this before.

Later Days

He’s not thought that through

My Boss was waiting for me at my desk this morning, when I sauntered in at 09.20am.

He says, “If you can’t make it in to the office on time, I’ll have to get a new IT Manager.”

“Do really think there is enough work for two of us?”

Anyway, can I just leave you with the following thought?

Time flies like an Arrow
Fruit flies like a Banana

Thank you and have a good weekend.

Some Good news

Finally, I have some good news to tell you (all?)

I used to be depressed and miserable.

Well no more, I’ve turned my life around…..

Now I’m miserable and depressed.

Thank you, I’m here all week.

World Cup frenzy

Our local Woolies has a 'football free' DVD area – where the current DVD on offer is 'Bend it like Beckham'. Doh!

Some people get right on my wick!

There is a girl who sits close to me who is always whinging about how little money she has. Which is normally ok as we are all skint.

However, this fucking bitch winds me up for the following reason.

  • She is a fully qualified accountant and is on around £40,000 at least.

  • Her bonus this year was £7,000 (mine was zero)

  • Her husband is also in a very well paid professional job.

  • She has one child, which her mums looks after and so pays no Nursery fees.

  • She has TWO houses, one of which she rents out and that covers that mortgage with a bit to spare.

  • She a whinging bitch

  • She is constantly going away for Holidays (went to see Robbie Williams in Paris last week and is off to New York shopping next month)

  • She is a whinging bitch

  • She is always making mistakes at work and blaming other people.

  • She has just complained how much her new kitchen is costing (£24,000)

  • I hate the cow

Rant over.

Sky HD Review

Being a generally all round lucky bar steward I’ve managed to get my hands on one of the new Sky HD boxes before the majority of people.  First of all this wasn’t cheap, £300 for the box and then an extra £10 a month for the “HD” subscription but with the thought of high definition world cup football I couldn’t resist.  It also helps to have a forgiving, wonderfully sexy chick of a wife.

Having had the word from the installers that everything was ready to go I flew home from work yesterday to give it a go.  The box itself looks modern yet old (black yet curvy) surely everybody must know by now that black is the new silver?  It does its best to look different from every other box stuffed under your TV, there’s no way you’re going to mistake this for a DVD player!  It has enough connections to keep most people happy; mine has a scart cable connected to a wireless sender to broadcast around the house, a component connection to the TV (old school - no 3D TV here) and a HDMI to HDMI connection to my TV.  It was already wired up but I’m sure there is a second scart available as well.  You’ve also got all the usual sound outputs and mine is connected to a Yamaha home cinema system via the optical out.  One final thing to note about the hardware itself is that the remote is much sleeker, it’s flatter and wider than the old Sky+ remote and just looks and feels of a much better quality.  The old remote is fully compatible with the new system though and there are no new buttons/functions to worry about.

The first channel I tried was the BBC HD preview channel which shows a loop of nature program clips and documentary previews etc, all filmed in true HD.  I was stunned by the quality, to be honest the wife less so.  However after a few minutes I flicked back to a non HD channel and then you could see the real difference, S was impressed so that’s a big relief.  Being a techy nerd I then thought I’d try the same channel with various inputs to see if you could really see the difference, trust me on this, the ONLY way to view HD is through a HDMI or similar HD interface.    Colours were more vibrant, the picture so much more lifelike.  The fact that you can see every detail on a face takes a little getting used to.  The best way to describe the high definition picture is that everything looks far more 3D.  You feel like you could pick up something from within the screen, not my words but those of L my 10 year old daughter.  So the BBC’s HD effort is everything that the Sky promo promises, I then tried the Sky channels.  The selection is limited, a lot, 4 movie channels (2 you have to pay extra for), 1 sports channel, 1 general entertainment channel and a couple of documentary/nature programs.  I flicked through all of them, all are far less impressive than the BBC channel to various degrees.  Sky Sports HD was ok, not as crisp as the BBC but still a big step up from standard definition, Sky One was disappointing although I believe a lot of the programs available are actually upscaled normal programs, so over time this should improve.  The programs on the other channels weren’t really my thing so I didn’t mess too much.  Obviously they look better than a normal picture but not so much as to knock you of your feet.

Eventually I put the football on the BBC channel, all I can say is WOW!  It really was like being in the crowd, I can’t emphasise enough just how good this looked, 10 times better than the BBC preview.  Even S was stunned, L didn’t believe that it was a TV program (she thought I was playing a 360 game), the whole thing was just so “solid” in front of your eyes.  I was as happy as a pig in shit.  SD is for girls and gays, HD is where the real men live.  At one point it showed a camera angle from inside the posts as a goal was scored, I hadn’t had anything to drink, honestly, but I swear I wanted to dive and try and save it.  No words can do it justice.  I was worried that S would be disappointed with the whole thing, her eyesight isn’t the best and she just doesn’t get technology, but it is impossible not to be impressed.  I’m sat in work and I can’t wait to get home and watch some HD football.

So you can probably gather that I’m happy with my purchase but there is one big problem with all this.  Is it worth the money?  The box itself?  Without a doubt, the technology is incredible everything you would hope it would be.  As soon as there is more true HD content you will never want to watch a normal picture again.  The problem is the £10 a month, Sky have been bone idle with the programming they supply and it is apparently this that your £10 pays for.  No exclusive content and a quality that just isn’t as good as the BBC channel which is after all paid for through license fees.  It looks like Sky are going to make a lot of money from the fact that the BBC are providing top notch HD coverage and it doesn’t seem fair, least of all to those of us who are already paying a license fee and a Sky subscription.  If Sky dropped the £10 a month extra than this would be the must have item of the year, they say its as big as the difference between B&W and colour, well I’d still watch a B&W film, when there is enough HD content there is no way I’ll be watching any SD programs.  Until then it’s a luxury toy with a high show off factor.

Did I mention I’ve got Sky HD?  Get in there!

You can’t believe all your read.

There’s me harping on about not being able to run off acute chest pains; well it turns out I was talking complete bollocks.

I was at the Gym today and I was 8 mins into my session on the cross trainer trying to breathe through the pain. So I thought bollocks to this and started running harder. Sure enough after beasting (Army Term) myself for another 12 mins I had ran through the chest pain and a stitch as well.

Obviously the harder you work, the more pressure in your heart and anything in the way, just get’s pushed out. Simple.

I even managed 300 crunches and 1500m on the rower with no ill effects.

Here endeth the revised lesson.

Something Really Funny

You know what’s funny?

Things that make you laugh; they have me in stitches. Especially if you start laughing at them and then think about the funny thing that made you laugh in the first place, that makes you laugh even harder.

I like laughing it makes me happy.

As you can tell it’s Monday, I’m at work and bored silly.

I can’t think of anything else to write about.

Anyway, I’m going for a wander around the office and I might read the paper upstairs.

Top Heart Tip

If you wake up with acute pain in your chest, which get’s worse during the walk to work, don’t go to the Gym to try and “run it off”, this only works with stitches.

Plus you look a right coooont on the cross trainer clasping your chest.

Here endeth the lesson.

Daddy Day Weekend Review

Let’s start with a quote in the paper:

When Sir Paul McCartney was asked, “If he would go down on one knee again?”

He replied, "I'd rather you call her Heather, and no."

Anyhoo, back to the review.

Friday was the Betting Syndicates Day out. As usual I set a fast pace on the drinking, mainly because the lads were talking football, and as I couldn’t join in it made sense to drink. Plus I had hold of the kitty.

We then had few games of Pool, followed by Arrows, and then retired to play cards. At this point, I was up to 10 pints in 4 hours. As you can guess, I was was coooooonted. Everyone else was up to going to the Casino to play cards for money, but I decided that I best get myself home.

So it was a good afternoon, and I enjoyed myself, and won all the pool games and darts.

Saturday was Rugby day; I watched the Ireland v New Zealand game, followed by the England v Australia game, and then the Scotland v South Africa. England were awful and Ireland the best of the home nations.

Saturday evening, my sexy wife and I made a meal, drank wine, cuddled on the sofa and watched a film, one of the best evenings we’ve had in a long while.

Sunday was Daddy’s day. The start of which was delayed waiting for the baby to wake up (10:30 he finally stirred). We then went for Sunday Lunch at the Terminus Tavern, which was the best Sunday Lunch I have ever had outside of cooking it ourselves. I highly recommend it.

The other highlight of the day was watching Wigan v Catalans and seeing Wigan win…

I got two cards, two T-Shirts, a pair of Jeans and new Swimming Shorts, so a big thank you to two of my kids and my very sexy wife. Least said about the eldest one the better.

Hope all the Daddy’s out there had an equally good day.

It ain’t going to be pretty

I took yesterday off on a sickie, I decided I had only had two all year, and that I was due another. So I tweaked my quadacep muscle playing Rugby on Wednesday evening, which was all the excuse I needed to take the day off.

I spent a glorious morning playing video games….

However, today I had to come in as it’s our work’s betting syndicate day out. We are off on the piss from 12.00 on our winnings for the year, a grand total of £316 between the 4 of us. Of course if we had just put the £5 a week each in to a savings club, we would be going out with a kitty in the region of £2000… still, where would be the sport in that?

The only thing I’m concerned about is the amount of drink. The other three lads are big boys, not one of them is under 16 stone… I on the other hand am an athletic lithe 12 stone of pure muscle. Simple physic’s states that I have a much lower body mass to absorb the alcohol than the other bigger boyz. As long as I last till 5.00pm, I shall consider it a victory.

Baring in mind that one of the lads has three pints of larger every day for his lunch….

Still it should be an excellent afternoon of Pool, Cards, Darts, food and drink….

As for the weekend, it’s Daddy’s Day on Sunday. So don’t forget to get the daddy in your life something to show him, how much you appreciate all he’s done for you. Can someone send me a text pretending to be my eldest, as I never get anything of him….

Have a great weekend.

Bugger

It is probably a dream come true to most blokes, my Telecom Account Manager has invited me to the local Wine Bar tomorrow night to watch the England game on a Big Screen TV with FREE drink and food thrown in.

Could it get any better?

Actually Yes, it could be Rugby instead of poncey Football.

Therefore, I shall not be going for two reasons.

  1. It’s football and I don’t like football

  2. It’s FREE drink, I’ll be drunk and making a fool of myself within an hour

Never mind, roll on the Rugby World Cup 2007.

OH ! I forgot to mention, I was told to bring a mate...... [sit's back and waits for the emails...]

What a Greedy Bastard I am.

We sat down last night with some nibbles, i.e. a selection of Indian food to munch at whilst watching a DVD.

I had two full plates and was stuffed to the gills. However, once Princess said she had had enough, I looked down and there were still tones of perfectly good food left. I hate throwing food away, so I piled up another plate full of by now cold Indian food and slowly ate it all.

Of course, by the time it was bedtime I could hardly move.

In fact, I had a terrible night’s sleep, as I was uncomfortably full.

I shall endeavor from now on, just to put food in the bin…

As for the DVD Hoboken Hollow… what a weird DVD. Lots of torture and blood and gore.

What a Fantastic Week Off.

I sat in work on Monday morning looking outside at the glorious sunshine, and after a brief look to see the forecast for the rest of the week, I thought; Fuck This for a game of Soldiers…

So I took the rest of the week off.

And what a fabulous week it was, it really felt like a full overseas holiday without the expense for travel. I would rate it as my best holiday ever.

The sunshine was endless, and the booze was flowing. The laughter and general gaiety was boundless.

We spent hours and hours down beaches, in Parks, eating takeaways and lots of ice-creams.

The highlight of the week was the BBQ we threw at a moments notice on Friday evening. I made a lorry load of homemade burgers and Maxine out did her self in home made Potato Salad, Coleslaw, Chicken and beef kebabs, salads etc… There was enough food to feed an Army. Plus tonnes of people turned up with loads of kids. We had very little tears from both young and old. No one ran out of food or drink, and we had a great laugh. An excellent evening in all.

Alas it was all over this morning, back at work.

Scorchio

You would think that a grown man of 'Life begins...' age would learn, huh? But no – I seem incapable of even the most basic care and attention that the rest of you lot seem to manage without thinking about it

I got sunburnt last Saturday. A beaute, too. Glowing red lobster, tender, succulent, done to a crisp, medium to well done, flamin great roasted to a tee Sunburn. Sat out in my back garden, book in hand, fresh lemonade on hand, soaking in the rays in the suntrap. Did I get any suncream on me? What – with the TV adverts streaming a constant '3 for 2 offer, we wouldn't let our children step into the cancerous sunshine' message?

No, I didn't. I was Ray Winstone in Sexy Beast twice over. I was colour me sulfur. I had a healthy sellafield complexion. People stopped in the street and whispered 'ouch'. And So - I endured the comments and remarks about 'catching the sun' (and being half baldy I have more to catch . . .) and braced myself for the next days tender soreness.

And yes – it was sore. That heat radiating, sleep with a wet towel over me, sore. But hey, bit of pain and all that, soak it up and get on. Am I right?

Well – I was totally unprepared for the next few nights, wasn't I. No amount of anti-histamine lotion and cool baths were gonna save me from the next series of agonies. It's the fifth or fourth circle of hell. It's the night attacks of needle sharp invisible hornets. So random, and irregularly every 20 to 30 seconds or so. Absolutely impossible to sleep thru – so I resorted to watching late night TV and drinking Absinthe and blackcurrent until I was numb enough that I couldn't feel the spikey itchey painey and could collapse into a fitful, drink sodden sleep.

Will I learn? Will I buggery. Already the peeling has taken on leprous proportions as I leave great wads of skin wherever I sit, stand or pee. And already I'm planning to meet the boys and girls out tonight, down Bushy's tent for a few ciders, looking forward to the weekend and getting out to 'top up' the red bits.

Scorchio!

Nightmares

You know when you wake up in the middle of the night and you've just had a terrifying nightmare that you can't quite remember?

And the room is pitch black and the Quilt (Duvet/Comforter/Blanket/Cover etc) has slipped down and you can feel the cold night air against your slick skin?

And you know that Zephar, the Grand Arch-Duke of Hell is stood at the bottom of the bed, his scaled skin gleaming from the glow from his flaming eyes; he's waiting for you, ready to summon his Legions of Demons from the pits of the Underworld to come and consume your soul. But you can't turn over, you can't face him.

So what do you do? That's right, you pull the Quilt up over you, covering your trembling torso from the inky darkness.

And what does Zephar think of this?

"F*ck me, not another f*cking Quilt. I'm sick of this sh*t. Oh well, down the pub again lads"
[sound of cheering from 10,000 p*ssed up Demons]

Hey, no one said it was easy being Satanic.

Bugger All to tell you.

Nothing much is happening at all. We are very very very skint at the moment, however, we are not worried about that. Mind you, although we are not worried, it does mean that I can’t buy anything new, unless it is essentials, i.e. Wine, Cinema Tickets etc..

The TT is coming along nicely and more and more bikers are turning up. There were approx 50,000 visitors to the TT last year, which is a hell of a lot of people to cram on to an Island that is only 13 miles wide. For your information the Population of the Island is 76,315 as at 2001 (which was the last census).

Although I don’t particularly like the actual racing, the buzz around the Island is fantastic. Everyone is just out to have a good time, and there’s never any trouble. If anyone is ever thinking of holidaying on the Island, you should consider coming when the TT is on.

More information on Isle of Man Statistics can be found here.

I still can’t understand everybody at work, fascination with Big Brother 2006. Are all the girls running around naked? Do you see Imogen Topless? That’s the only one I know as one of the lads keeps going on about her. I have just been told there is also a ropey old tart called Lea with and incredible set of top bollocks. Lea’s breast are apparently, and I quote here, “largest breast implants in the UK”. Aw well, each to their own.

I prefer House, and Bones.

That’s it really, the weather is great at the moment, and so I might actually get the kids down the Glen and tickling some fish over the weekend….

Have a good one everyone.

£14.50 Bastards

My usual stylist is on holiday and as such I had to go to a Men’s Hairdresser this lunch time to get my flowing locks trimmed and coiffured.

The hairdresser was pleasant if rough, but still acceptable.

Although why oh why they bother talking to me I’ll never know. I’m not the most chattiest of people, still waters running deep and all that, so they always start off asking questions, but invariably give up after 5 mins on one word answers.

“So, on your Lunch hour?”, “Yes”.

“Going anywhere nice for a holiday this year?”, “No”.

“Been to watch the bikes yet?”, “No”.

You get the idea…. Give up son, I just want a fricking haircut in peace.

Anyhoo.

“How much is that then mate?” £14.50……

For 6 mins of running a hair clipper over me????

For fuck sakes, where’s your mask you highway robber…

Thieving gypsy Pikey Scummer fuckers…

Sharon is deffo getting a big bunch of flowers and wine when she get’s back, as she saves me a fortune.

TT week and the Weekend that Was.

TT week has started and as usual that means wet weather. I always feel sorry for the poor sods that make it over every year. All they get is wet and robbed by the thieving Manxie’s who up the price on everything for a fortnight once a year. Mind you, I doubt any actual real honest to god Manxie’s own anything anymore. We are a dying breed.

To help get in to the TT spirit; we have a family sweepstake running on how many people will be killed this year.

I have 9 & 11, Wife has 5 & 12, Baby has 8 & 2, middle son has 3 & 7, eldest son 4 & 6.

So far we are up to 2 dead (first day) and two very critical… so the £5 is looking like it’s mine.

As for the weekend, nothing much. We did go out on Saturday night with a load of friends and had an extremely good evening, lots of cheap food and wine. I was extremely drunk and as far as I’ve heard back so far, I didn’t make an arse of myself and didn’t have a go at anyone.

Saturday afternoon as saw Sale Sharks crown Guinness Premiership Champions, winning their first silverware in 143 years… Well done lads, it was a cracking match.

We also had a family day at the Isle of Man Wild Life Park on Monday. Which was up to it’s usual poor standard. Half the attractions are empty. However, I was very impressed with the new Fruit Bat enclosure.

That’s it really, I’m trying to motivate the lads to go and see Xmen 3 this week, but it’s proving harder than I thought.

And in reply to Carol’s comment, I did buy a brand new HD LCD TV, but we’ve had it six months now, and so I want a new one… You know what boys and their toys are like.

And for all of those that can’t get to the TT party, here are a number of webcams available around the Island. (I haven’t tried them all)

Telemarketing Calls – Bastards the lot of them.

After reading LC’s blog, where he’s ranting at receiving unsolicited calls, it reminded me, that we have been getting more and more of them.

So I finally did something about it and registered our number with the TPS.

http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/

So hopefully they should stop in the next week or so.

But they really are bastards.

It’s been a while

As you may have noticed, there has been a lacking of posting recently. This is mainly because nothing is happening in our private lives, and too much is happening in our work lives to post any old shitte. I was unable to post at work for a while, and then when I found a way around that, I just could not be arsed anymore.

However, I thought I would make the effort today.

As for me, nothing is happening. My life is in limbo waiting for our little break away without kids in the Lake District, mind you that is in July and we booked it in January. Daniel is Nappy training now, and has been fantastic, I honestly think he has only had two accidents and they were in the first two days. The boy is simply years ahead of his peers.

I have not seen my older Son in a month, he hasn’t bothered coming up on the weekends as he’s too busy with his mates in Ramsey. Which makes me a little sad when I get his text (he doesn’t even bother to actually phone and speak to me), but hey, as I grew up I was the same with my Dad. So it’s all Karma, paying me back.

The middle Son’s career in the theatre is coming along nicely and he recently made it in to the Xmas Panto. He also collects his Oscar tomorrow.

The incredibly sexy woman I married has a new job, which should start in the next few weeks.

I have finally been given one of the courses at work, however, I had asked for Five, but they can’t do that, and will only approve them one at a time, even though the cost will be double for them. Plus it does mean that I have to stay with the company for two years, otherwise I would have to pay back the cost of the course.

I am also off to Guernsey for a couple of days in July for work.

Apart from that, there a three big Rugby games on this weekend:

Guinness Premiership Grand Final: Leicester v Sale, Sat Kick-off: 1500 BST
Super 14’s Grand Final: Crusaders v Hurricanes Sat Kick-off: 0835 BST
International: England v The Barbarians, Sun Kick-off: 1430 BST

One of the lads has booked his Sky HD installation and so we are all going round his to watch one of England World Cup games in stunning High Definition.  That’s more about the HD than the Football.

That is it really, apart from three out of the four of us that are meant to write on this blog are playing the same Xbox 360 game at the moment, which is one of the best games I’ve ever played.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

There's a compelling main quest for you to follow, which takes about 40 hours to finish the first time through, but the majority of the game's content is peripheral to that main quest. You can root out evil in hidden dungeons, join and climb the ranks in a number of different guilds, visit all the different towns and try to solve everybody's problems, compete in a long series of gladiatorial battles to the death, break into someone's home and rob them in their sleep, get caught and face the consequences, contract a disease that leads to vampirism and then try to find a cure, buy a house, steal a horse, invest in your favorite shop, and, if you can believe it, there's much more.

This may be a role-playing game, but you could play it like a pure action game, or like a stealth game, or like an adventure game, and it'll still be at least as good, if not better, than games that are specialized in these regards.

That’s it for another week.

Bugger My Fascination with Gadgets and Bloody EBay

One of the lads has a smart new phone, which runs Windows instead of the usual Mobile phone interface. It looks great and is what I now want. Notice I say want, not need, as I don’t need a new phone, as I hardly use the one I’ve got. Anyhoo, these are the two phones I’m after:

Qtek 8020 Smartphone for £159.96

Or the more expensive but Wifi enabled;

i-mate SP5 Smartphone for £300

In fact (I’m sure infact should be one word) I have made a couple of bids on ebay for them and missed out each time by £2. They went for £52 and £37 for the 8020.

In case (I’m sure incase should be one word as well) you were wondering what else I want, here is a list should any of you win the lottery.

Panasonic TH37PX60CAB  - Plasma 37" Viera HD TV

Panasonic VDR-D150EB-S DVD Camcorder

New Honda CR-V Executive Car

I want a new Camera as well, fancy new MP3 player, Surround sound system for the TV and loads more stuff…

Cotton Buds

So, I was sitting on the toilet, motioning. Ok, that's funny.

Anyhoo...

...I see the Cotton Buds container on the shelf so I grab it and have a quick read of the labelling, just to pass the time.

And, as we all know it says "Do not insert into the Ear Canal" which is where we all inevitably stick them. So my point is this; if they're not for cleaning out your ears, WHAT ARE THEY FOR?

I can think of no other part of my body that isn't better served by cleaning with a Power Shower, soap and a flannel.

So where? Up your nose, down your jappa, where? They're are so clearly made for cleaning a very small orifice.

They put the warning on the packaging just to get round being sued by newly deaf people. It's like putting "Do not smoke" on the side of a pack of ciggies.

Argh.

Trout Tickling

We were down the Pub last night, and in the toilets above the urinal is a picture of some old time gents Tickling for Trout. Every time I see it, it reminds me of when my Dad taught me to tickle trout, and we spent many a happy day down Molly Quirk’s catching trout.

So it’s time to pass on my field craft knowledge to my sons. The first sunny day we get this summer, I shall frog march them down the Glen and get them wet, dirty and hopefully happy.

Whether they like it or not.

I’m back

You wont believe what the b$stards at work have done, they have rerouted
our Internet traffic through their Proxy servers. I know my ghast was
flabbered. Hence I no longer have MSN, and I can no longer look at any Blog
sites, or ebay or any of the hot girly sites….. I feel emasculated.

Anyway, where there is a will there is away.

I have enabled email posting on this website; hence you are reading this
post.

Also there is one unsecured wireless network within range of our office. If
I take the laptop and put it in the far corner of the server room, I get a
very weak signal, but a signal never-the-less.

With this method I was able to communicate briefly with Donna on MSN. I
felt I was fighting for the French Resistance (oxy moron) and getting a
secret communiqué from behind enemy lines, back to the boys in blighty….

Anyway, I shall continue to post, whether you lot like it or not, and I
shall continue to read all those blogs out there, by hook or by crook.

It's a Dogs Life - part 2

Okay, now I've got Derek "I'm a gay scouse conman" Akora on TV. He's a medium (aka yappy tw*t).

He has looked into the beyond, he has enquired of dead souls on the other side, he has searched Hades for knowledge grim (i.e. he has randomly made up some sh*t that sounds convincing).

And apparently Bruce and Lezzie "are almost certainly going to get those dogs back".

Phew, Derek saves the day. I bet Brucie is delighted.

Bugger this old age!

I didn’t get to use my super duper new iron last night. Straight after work I had Rugby, and during one of my scything runs, just as I was opening up and almost flying over the pitch; my quad muscle went twang. I went down like a ton of bricks. However, after much cursing, I picked myself up and carried on playing on virtually one leg. After all if Olly Morgan can play a Premiership match with a broken jaw, I can carry on with a snapped Quadricep Muscle; my rectus femoris to be precise.

Anyway, I couldn’t walk last night and only just managed to finish a Chinky and a cheeky bottle of red; through the haze of constant pain.

I was actually hoping it would be worse today, as an excuse not to come to work, but alas, although sore I can just about walk.

Another well done, must go to my wife, on securing her new job yesterday.

And a well done also goes to Mikey for his frequent; if senseless postings.

Later Days

It's a Dogs Life

I feel a rant coming on.

Brucie Forsyth's daughter, Lezzie, has been the latest victim of a dog-napping. Her two Scottie Dogs (aka yappy tw*ts) were swiped from her car while she was busy feeding her face in a KFC.

So, Bruce and Lezzie have appeared on Good Morning UK to whinge like b*stards about this.

Now I have nothing against dogs; they make perfectly good food.

However, I hate celebrities. I can't believe that just because her father is a celebrity, this bitch gets national coverage to find her wretched mongrels. If I had my dog/goldfish/child swiped I wouldn't get that much exposure.

But what really prompted this blog was Brucie's total diva attitude.

Despite the fact that the stupid bitch shouldn't have locked the dogs in the car (hot day, cooked dog flesh etc), this is not where Brucie feels the blame lies. Lezzie was unable to set the car alarm because you can't set an alarm if there's something moving in the car (i.e. the dogs). He says that Car Manufacturs should solve this problem.

So, Ford, Chrysler, Renault, General Motors and Toyota should redesign their alarm systems in case you are a celebrity and want to lock your dogs in the car?

Gosh, what naughty Major Global Automotive Manufacturers for not thinking of this.

My Wife

If you happen to see her, tell her I love her, lots.

Well done babe on your new job.

Shaven Ravers? No thanks

Celeste - one of brightest and most promising of the uni-named Porn Queens on the planet.

But what will she be remembered for? Her early work with the Mickey Mouse club? Unlikely, Britney and Christina have too long overshadowed her exploits there.

Her flings with Charlie Sheen? Unfortunately, his reinvention as TV Evangelist "Mrs Beachams" has relegated her to merely an embarrassing stain on his otherwise squeaky-clean persona.

Or maybe she won't be remembered at all. Porn Queens fade faster than a tattoo done with a cheap biro on a Greek chick in a sauna.

So, in a bizarre new twist, Celeste has signed up with Dr. Edgar Lampgrabber, eminent skin-graft expert to stars. His balding reversal techniques have been used extensively by celebrities such as Elton and Billie Piper and have thrust him, arse first, into the public-eye.

And now his magic is being applied to....the chin of Celeste.

Chin!? Indeed, after discussion with her bisexual agent J.K.Rowling, she's decided to relaunch her career as The First Bearded Lady of Porn.

Nope.

Sorry.

I've run dry. I can't continue with this stupid story. And just in case you weren't sure, it's not true. I made it up.

But it really does make you think, would anyone pay to see a gorgeous, voluptuous porn star with a beard?

No.

New Iron

Our iron blew up last night, well it didn’t blow up in the sense it blew up, but every time you plugged it in, the trip switch went on the house electrics.

So for all intense and purposes, it is fucked.

And this baby looks like it will be the new boy on the block by tonight.

Bosch Power Steam Iron TDS1017

It looks and reads like it the dogs bollocks, I can’t wait to get stuck into the ironing…

I’ll be like a pig in shit.

Universal Underpant Constant (UUC) P1

Although some of you probably think I have too much time on my hands, I have actually been doing serious study. Today I present Part 1 of my latest Nobel winning research.

Fact: We wear Underpants so that we don't soil our 'outerpants', meaning we can wear our (more expensive) outerpants for more than one day.

This is a fundamental economic construct of the 21st Century with billions of dollars being traded daily through companies manufacturing these intimates.

However, are we being misled?

Consider this, the average cost of a pair of Outers is $22. So, at what price point are underpants 'too expensive'?

For example; if, in a average week, Mr Average wears 8 pairs of underpants (the 8th being for a special night out) plus two pairs of outerpants at work, a pair of jeans covering the weekend and his special 'night out' pants his tally will be:

8b + 4a (Where a = Outerpants and b = Underpants)

However, what if he had decided to go commando and soil his Outerpants at work forcing a daily change. He also soils at the weekend but decides that denim is robust enough to take the abuse. We end up with this:

7a (i.e. he wears 7 pairs of outers and NO underpants!)

To solve the cut off point for Underpants, we must solve this equation:

8b + 4a = 7a

Given that the average price of Outers is $22 we can substitute and arrive at:

8b + 88 = 154

Rearrange to give

8b = (154 - 88)
8b = 66

Therefore b = $8.25

Sadly, for those guys wearing "quality" Underpants costing more than $8.25 you're just kidding yourselves.

Women, on the otherhand, should always wear two pairs of knickers. Coz they're are like slugs.

Bluff things for Work

Whilst in the Army I learnt that work is all about perception, the ability to look busy without being busy.

That’s where I learnt the Art of the Bluff Board and Bluff Keys. If you walk around with a wooden board with a Bulldog clip at one end and loads of paper clipped in, it look like you are in the middle of doing something really important.

Similarly if you have a huge set of keys with one key selected, it appears that at any moment you are about to open something really important and that hierarchy should leave you alone.

Well in the office environment I use Treesize Pro. It basically shows you various views, including chart views of all the data on a selected network drive. People see this and think, look at Paul and all that technical data on his screen, he really is keeping this network spick and span, let’s leave him alone and calculate his next years bonus.

Whatever

I had decided some time during Thursday’s laborious working day that I would be taking a sicky on Friday. Once that thought was in my head, there was no way I would have made it in to work.

Hence, when the lads came around on Thursday night I threw myself into the beer drinking malarkey. It was a good night and it was very good to see Michael back on the Island. Although I think, he was a little girly in wanting us all to make a fuss over him. Moreover, NO, real men don’t hug, you great Canadian Faggot.

Any it was a good night.

Friday morning was fantastic, I watched a little TV and played a little Tomb Raider, and did some house work. Friday afternoon we went and got Ice Creams and sat in the sun, and even visited Michael at his Holiday Villa in Sunny Onchan.

Saturday we went to the Fun Barn that has recently opened up and enjoyed ourselves for 90 mins. That night we cooked ourselves a romantic meal, which didn’t turn out as nice as I would have wanted, but the company was fantastic.

Sunday was a lazy day, visiting a couple of people and helping Ady tow his car. Which was finished off with the first BBQ of the year. However, by the time we got round to eating it was spitting with rain, so we ate inside.

That was it really, or all I can remember.

Bastards and Money

My current, and I emphasize Current employers, are bastards. Firstly, they did not give me a bonus after our Company made MILLIONS in profits, in fact revenue for the first Qtr this year is $671 Million. They then promised me my MSCA training, which is a sum of 5 courses costing £5000 in total. I was sort of appeased at that, as that should make me more employable in the long run, plus they would be spending money on me, and finally I would get 25 days away from the office.

However, the bastards have shortchanged me; they have given me approval for ONE of the courses, what the fuck use is that. Coooonts.

So if anyone out there has a job going, which must be at least £35 grand a year, just shout.

Plus money, we don’t have any, and I hate people that do. It’s only the 4th of the month and we are already £600 overdrawn. I hate money. I hate everyone apart from my family today, and my poor friends. Bastards….

Touch Rugby, Car Keys

I played Touch Rugby last night, the first game of the season and it was a glorious sunny day to boot. I ran round like an idiot, refusing to give up the chase no matter how far ahead they were. In the first 10 mins I literally thought my chest would explode from the exertion, I had serious pains in my chest and head, but I ran through it and felt great. It’s amazing how much more vigorous sport is as opposed to exercise. The hour on the Rugby pitch only seemed like 20 mins, and I was completely fecked at the end. However, an hour in the Gym, feels like 2 hours and I’m only exhausted. I can’t wait till next week. Although my legs are killing me this morning, especially my right knee which has been giving me jip for the last few weeks. It might be time for a new one.

Anyway we finished Rugby and were all getting in our cars when one of the lads shouted that he had locked his Keys in the Car. So we spent a further 20 mins checking the pitch for them, just incase he had dropped them. We didn’t find them and so I gave him a lift to Peel, which means I was over an hour late getting home, which meant I missed seeing my little boy going to bed…

On the matter of the locked car, isn’t it strange how you get a certain guilty pleasure that it was someone else and not you? Or is that just me?

The evening was finished off watching the new Series 2 of Lost and a couple of glasses of wine.

All the lads are around tonight for beer and Xbox.

How do you do it?

I was asked an interesting question by my Son last night, “How do you wipe your bum?”

Which was a very interesting question, I mean is there a correct way to do it, or is it what’s ever good for you. Was anyone taught the correct method growing up? I can’t remember being shown.

In the Army you are advised to use 3 sheets of toilet roll, One up, One down and One to shine.

I however, am an advocate, of approximately 7/8 sheets, with the first couple neatly folded over. I then wipe and fold over one sheet length and wipe again. This process is repeated till the anus area is spotless or if I run out of sheets, I rip off another 7/8 sheets and repeat.

In case you were interested, by Son grabs a “ball” of scrunched up toilet paper and vigorous wipes up and down.

I would be interested to hear of other peoples wiping process, I really would.

Well sort of interested, that is.

Britons 'put fun before babies'

Bastards…. These childless couple’s have all the fun and money they can cope with. Yet when they get older who do they expect to be looked after by? I’ll tell you who, our kids. The ones we have scrimped, saved, and sacrificed our lives to bring up.

Well they are all selfish bastards the lot of them.

Hanging is too good for em..

VB King

I spent all day yesterday programming. Well apart from reading blogs that is, and organizing Touch Rugby for tonight. However, the majority of time was spent being a developer.

It all started when I created a spreadsheet for someone at work, and they want to periodically sort the date columns to see which company was next due. So I decided to do a little Macro assigned to a button. It started with two buttons at the top of each column (one for Sort Ascending and one for Descending), then after some furious developing, I have one button that asks you if which way you want it sorted. But that still leaves one button at the top of each column. The next task I have given myself is a Customised Tool Bar Button that when you click it, you type the Column Letter you want sorting, and then it asks Ascending or Descending. If I get this to work, I can see me developing my own Operating System to rival Windows XP or even Vista within the week.

That is all.

Sad news. From the bereavements column in a U.S. paper

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.
Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Cokey," died peacefully at the age of 93. However, the most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin.
They put his left leg in….... then the trouble started.

(You know it's funny).

Another Bank Holiday Weekend.

Friday Night my extremely sexy wife cooked a wonderful meal for me, and I watched Rugby whilst she prepared it. Saturday was a kid’s day, doing things with kids and the such (actually, I can’t remember what we did, but it must have been something). Sunday was at various parks most of the afternoon, then we handed what children we had left to Grand Mother, and Max & I went for a meal at Fiesta Havana.

It’s the first time I had been there, but the food and the service was excellent, I shall definitely be going back.

Sunday, was a very quiet day, and Max and I just enjoyed each other’s company and ate Ice Cream. The day was finished off watching “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”, which wasn’t too bad.

That was it really.

This week’s event’s to look forward to? Playing a bit more Tomb Raider, meeting the returning Canadian Manxie, having the lads round on Thursday, and that’s about it really.

Blog Post

I was only in work for an hour yesterday, I had an IT seminar in the morning, and then I was babysitting in the afternoon (we went swimming). So I had no time for Blogging, well no time to post, I did catch up on my daily blogs. Luckily, Ady & Mike stepped up to the mark.

Last night the lads went for a few beers at Bar George, which I must admit I am getting sick of now. The Bushy’s bitter tasted weak and watery, so for our next sojourn out in two weeks time (next week is a Halo Night) we’ll have to try some where different.

In other news, Lewis came a distinguished second in his Spoken Word tournament, mega well done to him.

That’s it.

Oh here is the ideal gift for the man in your life, or for any man.

Wikipedia (the dogs knob)

I look at Wikipedia every day and like to look at the Articles of the Day, just to expand the breadth of my huge intelelekt, so to speak.

Anyway, there was an entry on some Ancient Roman Emperor (or something historical). So I clicked on it and the page appeared. Except it was just full of pictures of knobs. Not knobs from dirty movies, just regular mens willies not doing much at all. Dozens of them.

No text, no information, just knobs.

The unfortunate page remained in place for many hours; I wonder how many millions of people saw it and were horrified/aroused/angered/cheered? (delete as appropriate)

Ah, those were the days.

Wow

Personalising your Google Home page is now jam packed full of options it'll have you scrolling down the page for half your lunchbreak (yeah – right. Like any of us surf during lunch! The lunch hour is a precious 70 minutes for you to get away from the desk and escape the hell that is your desk and it's immediate environment. Save your surfing for work hours).

From your Internet slang translator to webcam to loads of news services to free text services to Dilbert to the binary clock to Shakespearian insulter to Halo2 level indicator to Motley Fool to any webcam to games. Oh my.

So – I'm glad to be back. Ady “Google” Hall.

Internet Explorer 7

After having seen that Microsoft has made Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) available for download, I decided to have a go.

Internet Explorer 7 Download

So far I am impressed, however, that is probably because it looks almost identical to Firefox that it’s hard to tell which one you are using. They have stolen everything that made Firefox the fantastic browser it is.

But IE7 is nice looking and I have only just started playing with it. Plus there are a few extras, and I suppose you have to remember it is only a beta test at the moment.

Knackered

For some reason I was completely knackered all day yesterday, just dog tired. I couldn’t even raise a witty remark when my boss said, “Every time I walk past, you are on the Internet”. So fucking what I thought, pay me a bonus or get me on my training course and I’ll show some interest in my job.

Anyhoo, it was a quiet night really, apart from the running around see parents. Then we had a huge Chinese meal whilst catching up on Desperate Housewives, ER and Bones.

Another quiet night as well today, the only highlight on the day is the fact I might miss the Gym as I have serious shin splints pains in my legs and I want to rest them for Rugby training which starts tomorrow evening. Timmy D are you going?

That’s it.

Apparently

This is hilarious, but it needs sound, and I can’t watch it at work.

It’s a piss take of the Irish.

The Great Thespian

I mentioned that Lewis was in a play last Wednesday, as part of the Manx Festival of Plays. Well they had the results published on Friday Night and Lewis won an award, The Olga Grey Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution”. To quote the Judges, to have only had one rehearsal and to give such a polished performance is outstanding for person of his age.

Well done, Lew, we are all very proud of you.

Now get out there, and get famous and earn loads of money to keep me in gadgets.

Well done fella

Weekend Roundup

Friday evening was a very quiet affair, Maxine relaxed in the bath and I relaxed with the ironing.

Saturday, Maxine spent virtually all day cleaning the house, and Daniel and I did various things around town, including the park. Then Daniel went to his grandmothers and Max & I went up to the Cat. We were looking forward to a Steak & Bake, but when we got there it was packed full of people watching some football match. So we had a quick drink and decided to go down Bar George. Luckily there was no football on and we settled down for the evening. For nibbles we had Sweet Potato Chips and sweet chilli dip, which is now my favourite snack ever. Unfortunately, I had a full bottle of Red to myself, and “may” have started a little argument, but since I can’t remember leaving the pub, I’ll pretend that didn’t happen.

We had just got home, and were half undressed when my Mum’s next door neighbour phoned. My mum had tripped and caught the edge of the bedroom door with her face as she fell. There was blood everywhere, luckily enough she didn’t knock herself out and managed to get next door. They rang me and I rang the Ambulance, which wasn’t easy as I was extremely coooooooooonted.

Anyway, the main thing is, is that she didn’t break anything, but has a lot of bruising and swelling around her face and she also hurt her hand as she fell. I think she was more embarrassed about getting everyone involved.

Sunday I went up to clean all the blood from the upstairs and made sure she was OK.

We then had a family trip to Silverdale to play in the park, go on the Carousel and the paddle boats. I think everyone enjoyed the day in the Sun.

That’s it really.

Which knee?

Manx people have this assumption that everything is better in bigger countries.

For example; my knee surgery. The guy who did mine is considered one of the very best surgeons on this continent. He does the surgery for many of the NHL Players etc. and I felt that he HAD to be better than the goons on the IOM.

However, I will say one thing for Dr. Green (of Nobles fame) as he did the same op. on my knee about 10 years back.

The Canuck put three half-inch holes in my knee, which currently have 6 stitches each and are surrounded by the kind of bruising normally shown on CSI murder victims.

Dr. Green did the same surgery with two miniscule holes which he glued shut and I had no bruising whatsoever.

Dr. Green may not be the best knee surgeon in the world (and may have an annoying Irish accent), but he certainly was delicate. And I like that in a surgeon.
